The Michelle Obama Effect

The most recent fashion craze to storm America is the Michelle Obama effect. Recently the city that never sleeps, New York has been the most subject to this radical fashion change as leading fashion editors such as Anna Wintour who packed into a show for Jason Wu, the young designer who was practically unknown before he designed the First Lady’s inaugural gown for the Presidential elections.
The fact that the First Lady is wearing something from the young and practically unheard of designer, Jason wu signifies that this young designer has a bright future ahead of him. Jason Wu, who grew up in Taipei started his own label in 2006 and since Mrs Obama’s patronage half of his Spring collection in the stores has already sold out. Jason Wu is famous for putting together anything and everything from a fashion perspective. Whether it is fashioning Mens Tshirts or Gola Bags, this young designer has really got it all.
The First Lady is also wearing one of Wu’s designs (a fuchia sheath dress) on the cover of the world famous, Vogue in March this year. That one picture alone ensured that his New York fashion show last Friday became one of the most coveted invitations in town.
The modest young designer has still got so much to do in his career it is almost scary to think that so much success has come so quickly however the general mood of the public is that he will keep his feet firmly on the ground and does not want to get to ahead of himself to quickly. In a recent interview he has said that one day he wishes to work for someone like Chanel or Gucci just to get the experience of a life time. Soon enough I think it will be world famous designers who want to work with him and not the other way around.
