The DW Series And Dr. Who Audio Books Serial: Some History

Almost everyone in countries such as the United Kingdom, USA, Canada, New Zeeland & Australia etcetera should have heard of the world famous science Fiction television series Doctor Who from the BBC! Thanks to the rebirth of the show in 2005 following a 15yr stop, Dr. Who is as popular as ever with shows being shown on the international sci-fi channel and even on US TV channels in addition to the BBC’s broadcasts.

Thanks to the new series Dr. Who is currently officially the longest running Sci-Fi series ever with the first episode broadcasted by the BBC on November the twenty third 1963, an episode in which the Dr. and his companions voyaged back 100,000 years into Earth’s past to help out some somewhat dim cavemen so that they could make the discovery of fire. Star Trek happens to be the second longest running Science fiction series of all time having began in 1966 with stories in production up in to only a few years ago.

With the huge popularity of Doctor Who, the BBC began producing Doctor Who Audio back in the seventies on cassette and LP. The first releases were mostly soundtracks from the episodes with binding narration by the Doctors. It wasn’t long before the BBC decided to take the audio releases to the next level by releasing audio book episodes exclusively for Audiobook release.

Also the DW Audio Book family was expanded with the release of Audiobooks from stories that had solely appeared on the radio. Another good use the BBC have found for audio with Dr. Who is the re-creation of old episodes that had been lost. Now the BBC’s Doctor Who Audio collection has over 50 titles all available in quality Digital format at a reduced download price! The range spans all the way though the 1st Doctor right up until the present Doctor, David Tennant. Also Torchwood Audiobooks & Sarah Jane Audio have also been added in recent times.

On our planet today audio is even more popular than ever thanks to MP3 players. With multitasking becoming more and more an important part of our lives it’s not surprising that Audiobook sales for both DW and in general have augmented. Another reason why folks like Dr. Who audio is because in many cases the audio stories are now read by the actors of the series. They are also a great choice for long car rides, especially with kids as there’s nothing like a good Dr. Who storie to keep them busy.

The way things stand right now it looks like DW and its spin-off series torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures are doing very well so things look good for fans to be able to enjoy them for some years to come.
