Warhol and Pop Art

If you ever wondered who coined the phrase. ‘15 Minutes of Fame.’ it was Andy Warhol. You may have heard of the name, at least for fifteen minutes, but his name is synonymous for changing how people thought about art.

At the time and highlight of the Warhol era he was famous for his drawings of Campbell’s soup cans and Coca Cola bottles. We may look at it now and go huh, but he changed the way people thought about art.

Warhol was the creator of what is known as pop art. He lived his life knowing that are is subjective and knew it enough that others would think so too. He will ever be known for his work in the art world and changing it.

Andy was not only a painter. He was a filmmaker and a poet, an entrepreneur and a humanitarian. His films are cult classics, especially in the gay community, his gender preference he never talked about, but what is showed in his movies have natural undertones of this subject.

Warhol was a great patron of the arts and other artists as well. A quiet man that kept to himself was passionate about life in his own quiet way. He hung with celebrities and changed their way of looking at art. He owned a colony where others would flock, be nurtured and supported for their originality.

Though Warhol passed away his memory lives on with his work and how he helped the way others perceived art to be. The quiet man who changed so much about how we think about art will ever been captured in references for centuries to come. He also taught how to treat people as he let everyone enter his domain. He often quietly volunteered at local homeless shelters in the area where he worked as a kid.

Art Centers in NYC are Ones of the Best in the World

New York has been the thriving center of various American cultural movements since the early 20th century. Art lovers can indulge in a culturally sophisticated experience touring the numerous museums of the Big Apple. Throughout the years, New York has been the place where the hopeful, the talented, and the lost came and become great artists.
These days, a new young New York art scene has been emerging and it is originating from the white walls of Chelsea. Located on the West Side of the Manhattan borough, Chelsea continues to evolve as New York’s newset art center. The neighborhood has over two hundred galleries, and more are coming in. The vacant streets of Chelsea are beginning to house art, which may come as a surprise to some. These changes started to take place in the mid-nineties.

The neighborhood of SoHo in Manhattan had also been popularly associated with the arts. The place may now be more famous as a shopping destination, but many historic buildings made home by numerous artists still stand. The neighborhood is famous for its amazing collection of cast-iron architecture, probably the best in the world. in fact, most of New York’s cast iron buildings can be found in SoHo. Cast iron was used in the 1800’s as a decorative façade over a pre-existing building.

In an attempt to ignite New York art movement, the artist population in SoHo grew especially during the 1960’s and 1970’s when some of the spaces were vacated by factories which were then converted as lofts and studios by artists.  Lately though, SoHo saw the increase in number of expensive restaurants, shoe stores, and pricey fashion shops.

But the New York art is sill very much alive as reflected by its various world renowned museums such as the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. These incredible museums houses some of the most important art collections of American and international painters. You’ll be able to find a wide array of exciting masterpieces from Rembrandt, to Pollock, to the latest in Modern Art.

You can Find Many Fine NY Art Collections on the Internet

Many would say that the premier city for American art is New York. The city overflows with diverse art galleries which offers just about everything an art lover would appreciate. New York art encompasses almost all the styles from impressionism to post-modern sculpture.
Art lovers who visit New York wouldn’t want to miss visiting its wide array of museums which include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) which is probably the most popular of them all. A lot of American cultural movement in the beginning of 1900’s originated in the Big Apple.

MOMA is considered as the premier New York art gallery. Since its opening in 1929, the museum has been the toast of the modern art world. MOMA is the pioneer in bringing into focus the modern art, followed closely by the Guggenheim Museum which opened in 1936. About 80 years later, MOMA’s ambitions and aim as an outlet for new forms of modernist art is still being achieved. The museum houses some of the most important pieces of art forms such as the works of Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, and Edward Hopper and other iconic American painters. It also holds works from important international artists like Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo and Salvador Dali.

Another interesting landmark is the Guggenheim Museum located at the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Shaped as a white ribbon curled into a cylindrical stack, Guggenheim is considered as one of New York’s finest. Aside from focusing on the main artistic lines, Guggenheim also hosts a wide array of commercial art such as motorcycle exhibits and even Armani suits.
The Metropolitan Museum of Arts is another great venue. You may have known it as the setting of the hit movie “Night at the Museum”. The museum houses multicultural expression of paintings, fascinating Egyptian collection and so much more.

The Whitney Museum of American Art, also known as “The Whitney” houses over 12,000 important works from famous painters. Some other places where art lovers would enjoy visiting include The Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the Skyscraper Museum, and the Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum. These plethoras of museums certainly affirm the richness of New York art.

The Best Themes to Pick are Abstract and Nonobjective Works

They say that you will grow as a person if you build an appreciation for art. One of the ways to appreciate art is having a collection of original contemporary art. For some, they take this method to the next level, paying hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars for art created over the last century. The art price has gone really high in recent years.

But one thing is certain; works of some of the most celebrated painters are not the only one getting the millions in auctions these days. There was a time when the works of Van Gogh were the only ones generating the biggest value at auctions. These days, works of other artists are becoming valuable auctioned pieces.

But people buy contemporary art not just to appreciate its worth, but to make it as an investment. In time, these masterpieces become even more valuable. It has been proven that buying, collecting and selling art is profitable, aside from being interesting. If you want to invest on original contemporary arts, you have to remember a few things.

Keep in mind that the chances of finding a valuable piece of art at a garage sale are almost zero. You won’t be able to find a De Kooning masterpiece in any of these because most of his works were seen, bought catalogued and stored almost as a public record. And those lucky individuals who had bought his works made millions by holding onto them. The best way is to search for an artist whose works fascinate you. Talk to them and ask for the art prices, as well as their career plans.

You should also be able to bargain on price. But this may not be an easy thing to do especially if you are dealing with the artist’s largest pieces. Art prices can be tricky, but you can soften the negotiations by expressing your heart felt appreciation of his or her works. The less expensive ones are usually the smaller and less accomplished pieces. You can have a discount if you purchase more than one piece, or if you buy regularly.

The best themes to pick are abstract and nonobjective works. Also, try to pick an artist that has an original, different style which you can appreciate. Remember, your goal is to discover the artist before he is discovered by the big buyers.

Andy Warhol – The Millennium God of Art

Art certainly plays a very important role in people’s lives. It seems like in everything we do, art is always involved. In this world, many people are interested in arts but it seems like there are only a few who are lucky enough to have an extremely amazing talent on arts. There are only a small number of people who are blessed and who are gifted.

Andy Warhol is one of these people who has a great talent when it comes to art. If you know Vincent Van Gogh and Michelangelo then you can definitely add up Andy on them. But unlike the said artists, Andy is more like a god of art of the new millennium since he has been here more recently than them.

He was born as Andrew Warhola in 1928 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Who would have known that he will have this power to change the world of art? Young Andy was just an ordinary boy but his extraordinary talent in arts was already evident during his younger years. This talent was the reason why when he graduated; he decided to work as an illustrator on different popular publications during those times. In the 1950’s, he was already famous because he has been receiving various kinds of awards for his works.

His first solo show paved the way for him to become more popular in his chosen field. Yet, there are still more to come for Andy Warhol. I am certain that you are familiar with the Campbells soup cans. Don’t you know that he was the one who created that? He also did the Coca-Cola bottles, the Brillo boxes, and the Dollar Bills. All of these are famous. He became so popular with his Consumerism theme.

Though Andy Warhol first became well-known because of his talents in painting, he invaded not just the world of painting. He also invaded the world of films, drawing, sculpture, audio, time capsules, television, fashion, performance art, theater, photography, music, and computer. And in this world, only a few people are able to do that. So do you now have an idea on how talented and gifted Warhol is?

He is absolutely a genius to the point that he became so capable of changing people’s view about arts. His influence was really great. But then life was also never been so easy for Warhol. Behind the popularity were the many issues against him. One of these was the issue about his sexuality. And the worse thing that he ever experienced was the assassination attempt on him on June 3, 1968 which has changed his life. This had a great impact on his existence and on his art.

After that, life went on for Warhol. But on early morning of February 22, 1987, Warhol was proclaimed dead. He suffered a heart failure on his sleep and this is said to be the consequence of his gallbladder surgery. Although he is now dead, he is still never forgotten because of his contributions especially in the field of art.
