After Playing the Guitar Hero game, are you considering taking guitar lessons? Guitar Hero is a fun game to play, but it won’t help you learn to be a true guitar player. You might be thinking you would like to become a guitar player and get that same rush by playing the guitar or performing in a band.
Learning to play an instrument takes work – you don’t really get to “play” at it until you learn the basics and practice. If you can just learn a few chords and learn to play one guitar song, you’ll feel so much better and practicing will become more fun. I know because that is how it was for me when I was ten years old and I started taking guitar lessons! When I learned a few basic chords, I was able to use them for lots of songs. This is still an easy way to become a guitar player – just learn one easy guitar song. The second song you learn will be far easier than that first one!
What kind of guitar should you buy?
Lots of beginning guitar players start with an acoustic guitar and many start with what is considered a classical guitar. Here is an article that shows the three main types of guitars. A basic difference between those two types of guitars is the kind of strings – acoustic guitars have steel strings and classical (or folk) guitars have nylon strings. Believe me, the nylon strings are much easier to start out with because they don’t hurt your fingers as much!
There are benefits to learning to play on either kind of guitar. Starting with an electric guitar is important if you plan to play in a rock band. Decide what kind of music you want to play and get the right kind of guitar – or start with an acoustic guitar (they are good to learn to play guitar).
So, go get a guitar, but don’t get a really cheap one. Make sure you hear the guitar played first. If you have to get someone in the guitar store to play it, then do that. Find a guitar playing friend to visit the guitar store with you. Just start by finding one easy song you can learn to play. You will become your own guitar hero!
