Has anyone got the answer as to why we’ve all of a sudden got this wave of misty eyed nostalgia over the 80s? This recent decade has seen everything that was prevalent in the 80s pop up. Bands such as Spandeau Ballet have reformed and Kim Wilde has been out on the road touring again. Thrash metal has been revived again after spending the ninties in the grave. Older bands such as Kreator and Testament are releasing new albums and newer bands such as Evile and Municipal Waste are leading the charge. Bright coloured clothing and quirky t-shirts have come back ‘in’, so why are we looking to the eighties with such misty eyed awe?
- You missed out on it. I was born in 1984, so my memories of the eighties dont result to much, i remember the ninties more. But thats the point, people werent there, so will wonder what was it like -and hopefully wont ask their parents, setting them off on a misty eyed journey of their youth.
- We’ve never had more fun with music. At all. Big hair, pyrotechnics, synths, guitar solos -all these seemed to disapear once the 90s came in -a shame. Each decade stands against what the old one was about, to kill off the oversaturation of the marketplace and bring in something thats seemingly refreshing. And not a single Oasis song in view.
- The credit crunch. We all need to escape from the reality of the credit crunch, so we do need to let our hair down and party sometimes- provided its cheap-ish. The ninties gave us Britpop -so we cant really go to escape there. We need to have some fun, otherwise we’ll crack under the starin of the recession, if only for afew hours so before we go back to worrying.
- A reflection, and a rebellion. Fashion and music relfects whats going on with our society in general at the time, and its also a opposite of what came before it. Which means only one thing:
I’m going to have to sit through a 90′s revival in afew years time. Damn, delay this for as long as possible with some converse trainers and some cool t-shirts.
